Why I Love 24

I'm going to diverge a little from politics today and talk about the TV show 24. Although as always, politics is interwined. If you are a fan of the show you will relate and if you aren't, you need to be. Rush says he hardly watches any TV and he loves this show. He says he doesn't think liberals would like it and I would tend to agree. But my favorite liberal, James, is a fan of the show too which goes to show you it is popular across all demographics.

The show is about a place called CTU (Counter Terrorism Unit). Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) is an agent who has run CTU before but is usually out in the field getting the bad guys. I highly recommend the show. The season starts this sunday night where they will have a special 2 hour episode followed by another 2 hour episode on monday night.

First of all it needs to be said I love 24 because Kiefer Sutherland is hot!! Yes, I am happily married but I'm also not blind :-). A lot of it is how Sutherland portrays the main character Jack Bauer. He protects his family and the country from terrorists and the bad guys at all costs.

He always does the right thing when it comes to justice (although that doesn't mean he always does things by the book :-)). He doesn't wait for warrants, he doesn't believe in political correctness and he kicks butt! No one gets past him. He is awesome!! The men that are like him in real life are the ones who keep our country safe. A guy from Blogs4Bauer said: "Jack Bauer is the hero that this nation desperately needs." And I agree!!

Second, I have loved the show because one of the other main characters is a black president named David Palmer. In the first 3 seasons he works hand in hand with Jack Bauer to save the country from the bad guys. He is portrayed as a man of integrity who almost always makes the right choices. Even though he is surrounded by people who are trying to pressure him to do the wrong thing. In season 4 although he is no longer the president he is called in to save the day and I cheered when they brought him back :-). If we could have a man like that in real life and he was a Republican I would vote for him in a heartbeat.

To sum it all up I love the show because justice prevails. You have flawed men and women who are dedicated to protecting our country and standing up for what is right. There are casualties along the way and they aren't perfect but they fight for a cause that is worth pursuing. That is the essence of what we hope that most of our men and women in public service are trying to do.

I have mentioned it before but make sure you check out the Blogs4Bauer site. It has been a lot of fun discussing the show before it has even started. Happy viewing!!

P.S. I snagged my quote of the week from Mark's blog.

You know what..I just got turned on to this show during the holidays. My daughter was sick w/strep throat and we laid in bed together watching the marathon on A & E for a day or so and then during the night. WOW...what a show. No, I don't think liberals would like this show. (LOL)

Jimmy b, is a huge fan...he thinks that Bruce Willis should be partnered up with Bauer. (smiling)
I have to find your email..got something to tell ya...mysterious. (smiling)

Hands-down, the best show on TV!

Unfortunately, I watched part of an interview of Sutherland last night and he eschews the torture-thing he is so often forced to do by the script, instead personally endorsing the PC and more gentle, non-violent ways to get information from the enemy.

When it comes down to "them or us," I like the script-writers approach....

James: I agree!

Suzie: Yah, jimmyb is one of the guys who runs the Blogs4Bauer site.
He does a great job.

Semper Fi: Yah, we were talking on the Blogs4Bauer website and they mentioned that Sutherland was a lib. I would rather not know that :-). I like it better when I think he agrees with the show. And I'm with you that I like the script-writers' approach better.

LMC: I hope you were able to catch the recent radio interview Michael Medved conducted with "24" producer Joel Surnow -- it was eye-opening. Mr. Surnow is one of a handful of people in Hollyweird calling themselves a bit conservative.

If you want a NICE wallpaper for your computer of Jack Bauer, go to: http://www.fox.com/24/profiles/wallpaper/24_wallpaper_1152x864.jpg

Dionne said...

BZ: No, I didn't hear the interview but would love to. Do you know if they would have a transcript of it somewhere?

Bloviating Zeppelin said...

I think if you go to the Medved site you can acquire either the link or, if I'm not mistaken, you can get the podcast of it -- I'm not certain of this.

In any event, Michael mentioned Joel Surnow being the producer of two shows. What's the other one? Do you know? I'd be curious.

Dionne said...

BZ: I can't find a link to the transcript on his website but I may hunt more later. I looked Joel Surnow up on google and found this link: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0839695/. If you go there it shows you all the shows he's worked on. It says right on there that he is a fan of Rush Limbaugh and is the one who arranged for him to come to the taping of the show last year. Rush also got an advance copy of the first 4 hours and this guy must be the reason.

Cool, thanks for giving me this info!

I love 24. It's a great show. Unfortunately, I don't get much time to watch any televison on a regular basis, so I have to watch 24 on DVD at the end of year. Doesn't it suck when you miss an episode? I just finished Season 3 this weekend.

Liked the post.

Dionne said...

BZ: I have never seen Deadwood.

Suzie: Yah, I was excited about joining Blogs for Fox since I love Fox News. And seeing as you and I are twins :-) when it comes to that it makes sense that we both joined.

Sandy: I've never seen Boston Legal. May have to check that out.

Game: You're more patient than I. I wouldn't be able to wait. Thanks for stopping by.

ABF has never watched 24! What a crying shame. I'm going to have to go over and talk to that man!

Yeah LMC, you are absolutely right. Keifer Sutherland is hot! He is also one of the best actors I've ever seen. Did you ever watch him in Dark City? Not hot... no no no! Rather disgusting! Just shows what an excellent actor he is.

This is absolutely the best show on TV.

Dionne said...

Gayle: You and I seem to be on the same page a lot :-). Yes, love this show. I see we both like Kiefer and Mel. We've got good taste :-).

ABFreedom said...

LMC ... have a question, where is this series being shot. From the commercials I think I know where it is, as it has a certain recognizable tone or pattern that we see up here all the time.

Dionne said...

ABF: Where are you thinking? I looked at the website and I can't find out where it is shot so I don't know.

Hey Miss Chatterbox: Can you believe they killed Palmer and Michelle? What in tarnation! The plot was sooo riveting tonight!!!

Dionne said...

Mahndisa: No, I can't. See the next post's comments for James's and I's reactions.

ABFreedom said...

I think it's shot in Vancouver .... not sure .. but I heard some talk about it on one of the stations... it might have just been one segment. If I ever get a chance to watch it, I'll have to try and scan the credits...
