Free Roxana Saberi

This is a Human Rights issue that Republicans and Democrats should be able to join together on. Roxana Saberi is an American Journalist that is imprisoned in Iran. She was sentenced to 8 years in prison on bogus charges in a trial that took place behind closed doors. She turned 32 yesterday while sitting in the Iranian prison.

The KC Star had an article about her on page 21 of yesterday's paper. She has gone on a hunger strike to protest her imprisonment. Saberi's case has caused even more tension between Obama and Ahmadinejad. He and Obama could get along if it just weren't for the racism, denial of the holocaust and the imprisoning of American journalists.

Saberi's parents are concerned about how weak she is getting from the hunger strike.

What You Can Do:

1) Join the Blog Rally--
A group of bloggers is holding a blog rally in support of Roxana Saberi (who is spending her birthday on a hunger strike in Tehran's Evin Prison) and of others who have dared to express their thoughts freely only to be imprisoned, abused, or killed.

Please consider placing a blue ribbon this week on your blog, website, and facebook / myspace / twitter page, and invite others to do the same, in honor of the journalists, bloggers, students, and writers who are imprisoned in Evin Prison (nicknamed "Evin University") and other prisons around the world for speaking and writing down their thoughts.

2) Officials in Iran need to know your concern for Roxana Saberi and your desire to return her home, and while she is in Iran to have a fair appeals process.

Write to:
His Excellency Ambassador Mohammad Khazaee,
Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran
622 Third Ave.
New York, NY 1007
e-mail: iran@un.int

Tea Party Movement!

E. Thomas McClanahan wrote an excellent column for the KC Star on the Tax Day Tea Parties. He attended the Tea Party at Liberty Memorial and he had some things to say about the movement in general.

Here are some excerpts:
Bloggers at Playboy, noting how quickly the movement grew, figured it must be backed by some secret group. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the whole thing was “AstroTurf” — not a genuine grassroots effort. Liberal actress Janeane Garofalo suggested tea-party attendees were racists with substandard brains.

-----------------------------------------------
What we’re seeing is a center-right populist outpouring prompted by the long-term implications of President Barack Obama’s gargantuan budget, his spending plans, the massive tide of red ink those plans will generate — and, most important, what all that implies about the future balance between the government and the private sector.

I attended the tea party Wednesday at Kansas City’s Liberty Memorial, and I couldn’t find anyone who thought the event was about partisan politics. “Both parties are corrupt,” said Brian Stednick of North Kansas City.

Those with whom I spoke were mostly concerned about the rising national debt, ballooning federal spending — and the threat of higher taxes. Some mentioned the risk of future hyperinflation, given the huge sums of money flowing out of the government and Federal Reserve.

-------------------------------------------------
Those who criticized President Bush and the GOP Congress for fiscal irresponsibility were correct; when the Republicans were in power, they spent with little restraint. But as the graph shows, the deficit under Bush was shrinking until the housing bubble popped and the economy tanked.

By comparison, the coming Obama deficits are in a league of their own. On average, Obama’s plan would generate trillion-dollar deficits for the next 10 years, with chilling implications for future tax rates and the government’s financial health.

-------------------------------------------------------
“There are too many issues embedded in this single protest,” said political scientist George Connor of Missouri State University. “I don’t see these numbers generating a national wave. I just don’t see it.”

Maybe, maybe not. Obama’s budget and his radical agenda have triggered an angry, nationwide protest. The next several months will provide hints as to whether the leaderless Republicans, still casting about for fresh ideas, can translate some of that anger into real support for candidates.

Tori Spelling on Hannity!

I have to confess that I used to watch Beverly Hills 90210. I also happened to read Tori Spelling's book, Stori Telling last year and really enjoyed it. It gave me a lot of respect for her as a person.

I really enjoyed this interview and was impressed with Sean for having her on and with Tori for being willing to be on.

More from all of those Tea Parties across the nation! Starting with some KC links:

In St. Louis, Missouri:
--Jim Hoft was speaking at their Tea Party which had an attendance of 10,000.

The Kansas City Tax Day Tea Party Rocked!

Photo Credit: Allison Long (KC Star)

The Kansas City Tax Day Tea Party on the Missouri side took place at the Liberty Memorial. The crowd was estimated to be around 4-5,000 people. The weather could not have been more perfect. Andrea Plunkett did a phenomenal job of organizing the event.

KC's Conservative Talk Show Host Chris Stigall was the keynote speaker and he was excellent. The rest of us got around 5 minutes to speak. A friend taped my speech and I have it posted above.

I was so impressed with the turnout that I thought surely the media couldn't ignore it. Oh, yes they could. The media was there but on all the local news casts that I watched the only mention of the Missouri protest was a flash picture of the crowd. Otherwise, they chose to focus on the one on the Kansas side which was much smaller. And I think it was NBC that went quickly to what a Democratic activist's response was and then concluded with some poll that supposedly said that most people support Obama's atrocious spending. Unbelievable!!

Kudos to the KC Star though for posting a bunch of pictures and a video of the event! Also, a huge thanks to my friend who took most of the pictures in this post. She took a ton of great pictures and really captured the spirit of the day.

If you attended a tea party and have a post, leave me a link in the comments section and/or email me. I'll be doing another post tomorrow and hope to put up a bunch of Tea Party links.

Kansas City Tax Day Tea Party!

Nationwide Tea Parties are going to be taking place on April 15th. What is the purpose of the Tea Parties and how did they start? Below is a description of the movement from the Tax Day Website:
The Tax Day Tea Party is a national collaborative grassroots effort organized by Smart Girl Politics, Top Conservatives on Twitter, the DontGo Movement and many other online groups/coalitions.

The Tea Party protests, in their current form, began in early 2009 when Rick Santelli, the On Air Editor for CNBC, set out on a rant to expose the bankrupt liberal agenda of the White House Administration and Congress. Specifically, the flawed “Stimulus Bill” and pork filled budget.

Angie Harmon Makes Me Proud to be a Conservative Woman and an American!

While the comments of Mandy Moore and Debra Messing were those of typical Hollywood Starlets, Angie Harmon took a different stand. Mandy Moore said Obama made her proud to be an American, well, Harmon makes me proud to be a Conservative Woman. Here is what Harmon told Tarts at Thursday’s Los Angeles launch of the new eyelash-growing formula, Latisse:
"Here's my problem with this, I'm just going to come out and say it. If I have anything to say against Obama it's not because I'm a racist, it's because I don't like what he's doing as President and anybody should be able to feel that way, but what I find now is that if you say anything against him you're called a racist."

"But it has nothing to do with it, I don’t care what color he is. I’m just not crazy about what he's doing and I heard all about this, and he’s gonna do that and change and change, so okay … I'm still dressing for a recession over here buddy and we've got unemployment at an all-time high and that was his number one thing and that's the thing I really don't appreciate. If I'm going to disagree with my President, that doesn't make me a racist. If I was to disagree with W, that doesn't make me racist. It has nothing to do with it, it is ridiculous."

Speaking of dislikes, the starlet has also had enough of the double-standards in the media.

"I do think McCain would have done a better job, only because I think he has more experience. I also think if W or John McCain or Reagan would have gone and done a talk show, the backlash would have been so huge and in his face, and ‘What is our president doing? How unclassy!’ But Obama does it and no one says anything," Harmon said.

I loved what she had to say about Sarah Palin--
And in spite of the scornful opinions most of her Tinseltown counterparts have shared on Gov. Sarah Palin, Harmon remains a true fan.

"I admire any kind of woman like her. My whole motto is to know what I stand for and know what I don't stand for and have the courage to live my life accordingly and she does exactly that. The fact that this woman has made the decisions she's made and literally lived her life according to that and takes heat for it is absolutely disgusting to me," she added. "People cannot look at this woman. I really think they're afraid of her and her morals, ethics and values and the fact that she hangs on them. Is she the most experienced person in the world? But she was running to be the Vice President, so we then put the most inexperienced person as the President. That didn't make any sense to me."
