Merry Christmas!!

I was listening to the radio the other day and heard the above song, We are the Reason. It used to be one of my favorite songs in high school and I hadn't heard it in a long time. It is a beautiful song with very special words. I thought it was the perfect song to post for Christmas. Here is an excerpt of the lyrics:
As little children we would dream of Christmas morn
Of all the gifts and toys we knew we’d find
But we never realized a baby born one blessed night
Gave us the greatest gift of our lives

We were the reason that He gave His life
We were the reason that He suffered and died
To a world that was lost He gave all He could give
To show us the reason to live

I am heading out of town this morning and will be away for the holidays. Mike has graciously agreed to blog sit while I am away so I'm sure he will keep you entertained and informed ;-).

I want to extend a warm and hearty Merry Christmas to all of you. May God bless you and may you have a great time of fellowship with family and friends.

The Case Against Mike Huckabee

Sorry for the lack of visiting lately at everyone's blogs. It is Christmastime and I'm busy with Christmas Cards, baking cookies, running errands, finishing up school, planning my daughter's birthday party and the list goes on.

For those of you who want to hear about another candidate besides Rudy, it looks like the Hunter campaign responded to my email and I may be able to interview a representative of his on the radio show in the near future.

If anyone has any Fred Thompson contacts let me know, I would love to interview someone from his camp as well.

I hate to be a broken record but here is another article that does a good job of showing why Huckabee would be a disaster. I don't agree with some of what Bainbridge says but he makes a lot of good points. His conclusion was right on the money:
In sum, Mike Huckabee may be a “different” kind of Republican. He’s also the wrong kind.

Ice Storm Hits KC

Missouri and KC are notorious for their ice storms. We had one so bad in 2002 that people were literally without power for over 2 weeks. When it is freezing out it is impossible to stay at your house without heat. We were one of the few people that didn't lose power so we had several house guests for awhile.

This ice storm isn't as bad but we did lose power for 4 hours last night. By the time the heat came back on, the house had cooled down by 6 degrees already. All the area schools are closed today and my kids' co-op was canceled as well. The kids and I are going to make Christmas cookies later today since we won't be able to go anywhere.

Ronald Reagan's Farewell Address

A friend bought me A Patriot's Handbook awhile back and it is a neat book that compiles patriotic songs, poems, stories and speeches. I checked out the audio version from the library so that my kids and I can listen to it and I'm hoping to have us memorize some of the founding documents.

I was listening to it last night and I heard Reagan's farewell address and I thought it would be neat to post it. The video has the whole address and below are some of my favorite excerpts:
"Well, back in 1980, when I was running for president, it was all so different. Some pundits said our programs would result in catastrophe. Our views on foreign affairs would cause war. Our plans for the economy would cause inflation to soar and bring about economic collapse. I even remember one highly respected economist saying, back in 1982, that "the engines of economic growth have shut down here, and they're likely to stay that way for years to come." Well, he and the other opinion leaders were wrong. The fact is, what they called "radical" was really "right." What they called "dangerous" was just "desperately needed."

And in all of that time I won a nickname, "The Great Communicator." But I never thought it was my style or the words I used that made a difference: It was the content. I wasn't a great communicator, but I communicated great things, and they didn't spring full bloom from my brow, they came from the heart of a great nation--from our experience, our wisdom, and our belief in principles that have guided us for two centuries. They called it the Reagan revolution. Well, I'll accept that, but for me it always seemed more like the great rediscovery, a rediscovery of our values and our common sense.

Common sense told us that when you put a big tax on something, the people will produce less of it. So, we cut the people's tax rates, and the people produced more than ever before. The economy bloomed like a plant that had been cut back and could now grow quicker and stronger. Our economic program brought about the longest peacetime expansion in our history: real family income up, the poverty rate down, entrepreneurship booming, and an explosion in research and new technology. We're exporting more than ever because American industry became more competitive and at the same time, we summoned the national will to knock down protectionist walls abroad instead of erecting them at home.

Common sense also told us that to preserve the peace, we'd have to become strong again after years of weakness and confusion. So, we rebuilt our defenses, and this New Year we toasted the new peacefulness around the globe. Not only have the superpowers actually begun to reduce their stockpiles of nuclear weapons--and hope for even more progress is bright--but the regional conflicts that rack the globe are also beginning to cease. The Persian Gulf is no longer a war zone. The Soviets are leaving Afghanistan. The Vietnamese are preparing to pull out of Cambodia, and an American-mediated accord will soon send 50,000 Cuban troops home from Angola.

The lesson of all this was, of course, that because we're a great nation, our challenges seem complex. It will always be this way. But as long as we remember our first principles and believe in ourselves, the future will always be ours. And something else we learned: Once you begin a great movement, there's no telling where it will end. We meant to change a nation, and instead, we changed a world."

The Power of Political Women Bloggers!

A lady named Catherine Morgan has started a blog entitled, The Political Voices of Women. She is a liberal but is compiling a list of women bloggers who are liberal, conservative and anywhere in between. I stumbled across her project because she had somehow found my blog and added me to the list.

I decided I would make a list of all the women bloggers I have in my blog roll who blog on politics. Morgan only had 4 of my fellow bloggers on her list so I figured this would be a neat way to add to her list. I am going to list all of these women's blogs and possibly something unique about them.

Sorry men, you don't get any linkage here but you can still enjoy checking out all these awesome conservative women bloggers ;-).

1) Always on Watch

2) Bottom Line Up Front--Amy Proctor

3) The Anchoress--This bigger name blogger was a breath of fresh air when I was frustrated by the Bush bashing by conservatives over immigration.

4) Anna's Clue Tank

5) Big Girl Pants--Heidi is a new ally who lives in the KC area. It is always nice to find a fellow conservative woman blogger, but even more fun when she lives close by.

6) Blue Star Chronicles

7) Chicken Hawk Express--Robin was also a breath of fresh air during the Bush bashing time. Her and I often see eye to eye on issues we feel passionate about. She is an expert on the Haditha Marines' saga and made a great guest on my radio show about the topic.

8) Confessions of a Closet Republican--Incognito is a neat chick (I still use that word for women ;-)) who describes herself as a working actress. She offers a neat perspective on what it is like to be a conservative woman working in the Arts.

9) Dragon Lady's Den--Gayle and I have been blogging buddies since the very beginning. She is an older, wiser woman from Texas ;-).

10) Frankly, My Dear...--Linda and I both enjoy The Amazing Race and share some personal things in common. She is a big supporter of the troops.

11) Frog Princess

12) Grizzly Mama--Monica is a fellow home schooler so it is enjoyable to share things about school and politics.

13) Inches Away From Sanity--Debbie

14) La Shawn Barber's Corner

15) Lone Pony--Becky is an awesome High school Science Teacher and has overcome a lot in her life. She is one of my heroes. She is my only internet, blogging friend that I have personally met besides Rebecca & Michelle who are personal friends apart from blogging.

16) Marie's Two Cents--Marie

17) Michelle Malkin--While Michelle ticked me off during her immigration tirades against Bush she does run a great blog.

18) Midnight Blue--Skye eats liberal trolls for lunch and is a fellow Sawyer fan ;-). Her and I are kindred spirits when it comes to almost everything in politics. She has been a crusader recently at rallies supporting the troops.

19) Now For Something Different--Jennifer

20) Pondering Penguin--Karen

21) Public Pondering--RT has a great sense of humor and is a fellow Prison Break & 24 fan.

22) Right Think--Rebecca is a personal friend of mine from church. We have a lot in common. We both care passionately about politics and we both have sons that have had challenges. Her and I have gone to see George W. Bush, Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity together. She is an unbelievably good singer that sings with her group, One Voice.

We started blogging together at the same time and she was the first one who started being aggressive about finding connections and catapulted us into the blogging world.

23) Sister Toldjah--This big name blogger discovered me when I was blogging on Amendment 2 last election season. She has been very gracious in giving me advice and help.

24) Suzie's blog--Suzie has been a great friend in my blogging journey. She does a lot while combatting many health issues. We both share a passion for Fox News and for protecting children.

25) Tammy Bruce

26) This is my United States of Whatever!--Michelle is a fellow home schooler, mother of 4 and we both worked for our U.S. Representative last election season making phone calls.

27) Woman Honor Thyself--Angel

Also, if you know any conservative political women bloggers that I don't have listed here leave their links in the comments' section and I'll check them out. Thanks!!

My Take on the Writers Strike

This is my take on the Writers strike.

First, I think the Writers strike is valid and they should get their demands. The above video explains what they are upset about. While Hollywood is awash in money and actors may make obscene amounts writers often don't get near what they deserve. I am almost always against strikes since I am no fan of unions but this time I think they have a point.

Second, I am concerned about the strike. The thought of some of my favorite shows being disrupted is not fun. Save all the lectures on how I will have more time to read and pursue other worthier causes, they won't help ;-). I'm hoping they come to a speedy resolution and soon.

24 already appears to be taking a hit. This article says this season is being cancelled all together and this one says it is just being postponed.

TV Guide shows the status of some of the popular shows, below is the status of some of the shows I watch:
Grey's Anatomy: Eleven episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are four left.

Lost: Eighth episodes will be produced. None have aired yet, so there eight episodes left.

The Office: Twelve half-hour episodes will be produced. Eleven half-hour episodes have aired, so there is one half-hour episode left.

Prison Break: Thirteen episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are six left.

Private Practice: Ten or 11 episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are four or five
left.

One Tree Hill: Twelve episodes will be produced. None have aired yet, so there are twelve episodes left.
Another perspective: This guy points out how many people are being put out of work by this strike. Camera, make-up, hair people are all out of work plus numerous others. He talks about how during these strikes many lose their houses and much more. I think it is a bad deal all the way around and I don't understand why the powers that be don't just pay the writers their due and not make everyone, including themselves suffer.

My Interview with State Rep. Doug Ervin

As I've alluded to in past posts I view State Representative Doug Ervin as a stellar conservative legislator. Thats why I'm thrilled that I'm going to have the honor of having him on my internet radio show next Monday, November 12th.

We will be talking about HB818, the groundbreaking health insurance bill that he sponsored that was passed this past summer. It is free-market health care reform that Missouri is leading the way on. This is the ideal direction that we needed to be headed towards instead of some form of Hillarycare.

Here is what Beverly Gossage from the Show-Me Institute had to say about it:
"...the bill offers a common-sense approach to health care reform — not more government intervention and bureaucracy."

I'm sure I will ask other questions as well and it should be an enlightening hour for all. Make sure to tune in and feel free to call in with your comments and/or questions.

The details:
When--Monday November 12th

Time--9:00-10:00 am CST

Where--Togi Net site

Name--The name of my show is the same as my blog, Conservatism With Heart

Number to call in--1-877-864-4869

Interview with a Liberal

I will be interviewing the one and only James Manning from Peace on That on my radio show this coming Monday, November 5th. He will be my first official liberal guest and he is my oldest liberal blogging friend. He made a comment on my Tom Delay post which I did at the very beginning. He obviously is a pretty good guy if he has been able to survive all this time without getting banned :-). In fact, I don't think he's ever even been deleted.

Tune in for the fireworks as we talk about various political candidates.

One of my favorite things about him is his comedic ability. I've told him he should be a writer for SNL. Here are my top 4 comedy posts of his, take the time to check them out:
--The Cuss Out Kit (I take partial credit for the inspiration for this because he did this in response to a troll problem I was having :-))
--Christian Cuss Out Kit
--Press Secretary
--Bush Appoints Liberal Blogger as Ambassador to Venezuela(This is my favorite since I play a starring role in it :-).)

Sweet Justice!

The family of Lance Corporal Matthew Snyder, US Marine Corps, has begun this civil lawsuit* against Mr. Phelps and certain members of the so-called Westboro Baptist Church to bring an end to the reign of terror and abuse that they inflicted upon the grieving families of US service members killed in defense of our nation. Using innocent children to deliver their twisted message of hatred and fear, the defendants in this suit have sought to attack the memory of our departed heroes, to strip their loved ones of their dignity, and to use abuse and intimidation as a tool for preventing surviving family members from reaching closure over their loss.

It is the sincere hope of Mr. Al Snyder, Matthew’s father, that this suit will spark similar legal actions against Mr. Phelps wherever he seeks to inflict harm upon the memory of our heroes and their families.--from Lance Cpl. Matthew A. Snyder's website

I was one happy camper when the verdict came in on Wednesday that a Maryland jury had awarded a Marine father $11 million in his lawsuit against Fred Phelps and his cult. As I pointed out in my comprehensive post on Phelps back in April, he is evil incarnate and his group is not a church but a cult.

My hope and prayer is that every single military family who has been subjected to Phelps' picketing at their loved one's funeral will file suit also. This group of hateful people need to be bankrupted so they are unable to inflict pain on anyone else. They are not preaching a message from God. The message they preach is straight from the pit of hell and does nothing but subject innocent people to enormous harm.
