The Emmy's, Speeding Tickets, Bullies & Liberal Relatives

CAUTION: Whining and venting in excess in this post :0)!!

So I'm hearing all the chattering about the Emmy's and the only good name that is coming up is Kiefer Sutherland for best actor in 24. So I take the time to look at some of the nominees and it is ridiculous. It is just like the academy awards. If it is a good movie it doesn't get nominated. It seems to be the same with the Emmy's, if its a good show it doesn't get nominated. The only decent show IMHO to get nominated was 24. I guess I was shocked that Prison Break didn't get any nominations with how extremely well done the show is and how popular it is. I also can't believe Alias & Lost didn't get nominated for anything.

So who were the nominees? The West Wing, which is probably the most politically correct show on TV. Who watches that show????? And then I saw that The Closer is up for a bunch of nominations. I like Kyra Sedgewick and I tried watching the show but I totally just lost interest. Then there is a bunch of nominations for the people on Law & Order: SVU. Even when I used to watch Law & Order I didn't like the SVU one because you felt like you got drug through the gutter watching it and it was the first one to be extremely politically correct.

So in conclusion I really hope 24 & Kiefer Sutherland come away with some awards but otherwise the Emmy's are worthless.
UPDATE: Kiefer and 24 both came away with emmys so at least they weren't a complete waste of time.

Two out of the three times I've gotten a speeding ticket it is because I'm being a space cadet. Thats what happened the other night when I was on my way to the gym. I wasn't in a hurry, I wasn't even late, I just wasn't paying attention to how fast I was going. The officer pulls me over and asks me if there is a justifiable reason for why I'm going so fast. And ofcourse I have to say no!!! And I hate it because I'm not one of these women that can cry and put on a show and I don't have a big chest so I have gotten a ticket every single time. No warnings for me. Sigh... I totally felt like Goose on Top Gun when he said, "The Defense Department regrets to inform you that your sons are dead because they were stupid."

After being bummed about my ticket I headed to the gym. As I came in I saw a guy who looked like he was on steroids arguing with the lady at the front desk. She looked very upset. I went to the locker room to change and I heard someone in there crying. I found the front desk lady. The steroid guy and his friend had been bullying her and she was alone at the gym with no one to back her up. As she told the story it made absolutely no sense on why these guys were giving her such a hard time. The one guy refused to show his id, etc... And I hadn't really thought about it before but what is a 5'3 lady going to do if a steroid guy refuses to listen to her or follow the rules? And the bullies' actions made no sense except for they must've had big egos and knew they would be able to get away with a certain amount of bad behavior without consequences.

Again it reminded me of terrorists and appeasement. Appeasement only emboldens terrorists. Just like weakness only emboldens a bully. I asked the lady later if she had made sure she had his information so hopefully her boss could enforce some consequences. Otherwise these guys would think they could do this anytime they wanted too and their behavior would only get worse. It was also funny because the justice part of me wanted to do something. I'm only 5'4 myself and little bitty compared to these guys but there was a part of me that just wanted to go over there and give them a piece of my mind. What they did was just not right. A wrong had been committed and I wanted to make it right!!

I have some liberal relatives that I love to death. They are very giving and kind people but they are left-wing conspiracy kooks. I purposely avoid discussing politics with them but the one relative always opens the door and I can't not walk through it. They were over last night telling me how we need to have a socialist democracy like Europe. I wanted to put my head on the table and just sigh. First of all Socialist and Democracy are extreme opposites so I don't know how you ever mix those 2 words together. I rebut everything they say but they are over 60 and I don't have any illusions that I will ever change their minds. They both have worked for unions since they were about 18 yrs. old and have been completely indoctrinated.

They were also trying to convince me that the reason we don't have more refineries in the U.S. isn't because of extreme environmentalist restrictions but because the evil oil companies purposely don't want anymore so they can gouge the American people. I basically at one point said that isn't even remotely logical. According to them Big corporations are so evil that socialism would be better. Where is the logic in that? But what can I say? It is time to change the course of the conversation.
