Thoughts on Donald Trump...

Now, we have a track record.  We know what [Trump] will do policy-wise, which is a lot better than anything I thought he would do.  And then there's what he's done personally, as far as toxifying politics, and I think it's fair to say [what's happened is] pretty much what a lot of us expected to happen

..He's governed basically as Mike Pence would.  His actual governance has been very down-the-line conservative overall, although he is obviously a big spender

...I have to measure the fact that a bunch of things that I thought were going to happen already have happened and are not going to be cured by avoiding voting for him, with the fact that his policies have been overall pretty good, and the fact that he's going to be running against, presumably, a radical Democrat...--Ben Shapiro
Never Trump Conservative
--I've been very open and honest about the fact that I'm not a Trump fan.  I didn't vote for him in 2016.  It was the first time ever that I didn't vote for the Republican candidate for president.

--I found it hard to listen to the very conservatives who had trained me in the principles of conservatism, abandoning our cause by supporting Trump.  Ann Coulter was so extreme in abandoning her principles that I lost all respect for her and won't be buying her books anymore.  The ironic thing, was that as soon as Trump didn't do exactly what she wanted, she turned on him.

--Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh disappointed me as well and I went through a period where I couldn't listen to their shows.  I've been able to slowly start listening again.

Now We Have a Track Record...
--One of my biggest objections to Trump was that he had absolutely no track record.  He had gone from being a liberal to a "conservative", and since he had no political experience we had no clue how he would really vote.

...and the fact that he's governed much more conservative than I thought he was actually going to, I'm much more apt to vote for President Trump in 2020 than I was in 2016

...He's done a lot of really good things in terms of governance. His Middle Eastern policy I think has been quite great. His regulatory policy has been very good. The tax cuts are very good. The judges are spectacular.  All these things are great.

I was very skeptical that we were going to get virtually any of them when he was elected because he was so all over the place during the election cycle, but obviously he has governed fairly down-the-line on all of these major issues, and that changes the math.--Ben Shapiro
--When I found the above quotes by Ben Shapiro, I couldn't have agreed more.  I, like Shapiro was originally a Never Trumper but have been pleasantly surprised by how Trump has governed.

--Yet, as Shapiro points out, neither of us are surprised at how he has behaved personally.  So, while I am still not a fan of him personally and have some issues with his morals, I will admit that he has (for the most part) governed like Mike Pence would, and that is a good thing.
