Wednesday Smorgasbord!

1) Senator Jim DeMint nails it in his article on rebuilding the conservative majority.

2) Sarah Palin is a GOP Superstar!

3) The Face of Grace! A powerful story from a soldier on the ground in Iraq. Here is an excerpt:
While standing guard, Luke noticed a woman approaching from behind and cautiously turned in her direction, his rifle at the ready.

“An interpreter told our son it was OK – the woman just wanted to touch a soldier. Still uneasy, Luke stood still while the woman reached out her hand and touched his face, tears in her eyes.

“Looking to the interpreter for meaning, our son was told that the woman simply ‘wanted to touch the face of grace.’ It seems this trembling woman, like most of the people in her town, looked upon our soldiers as angels of grace, sent by God to protect her from the violence and oppression her people had come to know up to then. Learning this, our son squeezed and kissed the woman’s hand, and she left, weeping.

“The ‘face of grace.’ How many of us, safe at home debating the politics of the war on terror, have ever seen our soldiers in such a light? How many of us have even read such an uplifting newspaper account of our soldiers?

“People like this woman, having suffered years of oppression and fear, have eyes and a heart to see this, and the desire to “‘touch the face of grace.’ Do we have the ability to see our soldiers in the same way? And not merely our soldiers: Can we see the ‘face of grace’ in the police who protect us in every town, day and night? Or in the fire and rescue teams who are ‘soldiers’ in their own right?

4) Bipartisanship: For the common good? David Limbaugh is spot on, as usual.

5) Genius, Thy Name is Obama Ann Coulter also has a new book coming out about the media's love affair with Obama. The title is, "Guilty: Liberal Victims And Their Assault On America". It is set to be released the first week of January 2009.

Joy Behar's Vitriol Towards Conservatives!

I don't know how Elisabeth Hasselback can stand to be in the same room with any of the other women on The View, let alone have a rational discussion with them. Joy Behar alone, continues to say the most vicious things about Conservatives and Republicans. It doesn't matter that she is extremely ignorant and has no clue on the topics she weighs in on.

Behar's latest insulting attack was on home schoolers. She said that home schooled children are "demented". Unbelievable!! She is so ignorant on the issue that she probably has no clue that she just offended a huge segment of our society that chooses to home school.

Behar's body language when McCain and O'Reilly were on the show just conveyed absolute hatred for anyone who does not bow down to a liberal agenda. Examples of her extreme vitriol towards conservatives are too numerous to mention, but recently she called Sarah Palin an airhead and Rush Limbaugh a terrorist. One would hate to imagine the number alone, of her attacks on President George W. Bush.

It never ceases to amaze me how liberals preach "tolerance" but never show any of it to people who dare to disagree with them.

Twilight!

My teenage daughter isn't a big reader, but she loves the "Twilight" book series by Stephanie Meyer. It is a teenage love story between a normal girl and a guy who is a vampire. They are a huge hit right now with teens AND adults. Several friends of mine have read the books and really liked them.

My daughter has been counting down the days until the premiere of the movie based on the first book. So, last night 2 friends of mine, my daughter and one of her friends all went to the Midnight premiere of the movie. The movie theater we went to was showing it on 5 different screens, and the parking lot was packed.

I was the only one in the group that hadn't read any of the books. They all thought the movie wasn't as good as the book, although they enjoyed it. I had nothing to compare it with, so I thought it was pretty good. I can see why the storyline is so compelling and I look forward to reading the books.

90 Minutes in Heaven!

I am listening to the book, "90 Minutes in Heaven" on Cd. It is an incredible, compelling true story. I am usually skeptical of anyone who claims to have an after-death experience. Yet, his testimony is so real and genuine that I find it believable.

He died in a car accident in 1989 and got to experience heaven for 90 minutes. Then, a Pastor who was praying for him discovered that he was alive. This was after 2 EMT's had pronounced him as dead. Then, after experiencing the wonders of heaven he came back to earth only to live in extreme pain and undergo numerous surgeries. He is very candid about how he suffered from depression and countless other difficulties. He was in constant pain for years and still deals with it to this day.

I highly recommend this book, it is a life-changing story.

The Palin-Bashers!

Sarah Palin and those like her are the future of the Republican Party. Conservatism is not dead – moderates are the losers in this election. No liberal has been elected by outing themselves as same. They become centrists, moving center and center-right (remember the elections of 2006). Obama, who is recognized by other liberals as the most liberal liberal in Congress, spent the last two months of the campaign running center-right.--Mychal Massie

I couldn't agree with Mychal Massie more in his column, "The Palin-Bashers". Here are some excerpts:
The accusations now surfacing is that Gov. Palin isn't "smart enough" to even consider running for president
, to which one might argue: like Al Gore and John Kerry were, and like Joe Biden is – but I digress. A pre-eminent business leader told me many years ago, "You don't have to be super smart to be successful – you just have to be smart enough to surround yourself with people who are."

To that point, Sarah Palin is not only smart enough to surround herself with smart people, but she is also both smart and capable. Her record of accomplishment in barely two years as governor of Alaska is extraordinary. She is a proven fiscal conservative who puts the best interests of the people ahead of "good ol' boy" politics and policies, and she isn't hesitant to take on malevolent factions of her own party. She holds to traditional values, not as a mace, but as a way of life.

She restructured her state's pre-existing severance tax on oil and gas production, renegotiating the structure in full public view, and the rebated part of the resulting surplus went directly to taxpayers. She ended a multi-year stalemate over the financing and construction of a $40 billion cross-state pipeline that supplies cheaper natural gas to Alaskans and the lower 48 states. That single act alone did more to advance American energy independence than Biden, Obama or McCain can boast collectively. In her capacity as being responsible for the Alaskan National Guard, she authorized 521 missions that saved 200 lives.

His conclusion:
Sarah Palin and those like her are the future of the Republican Party. Conservatism is not dead – moderates are the losers in this election. No liberal has been elected by outing themselves as same. They become centrists, moving center and center-right (remember the elections of 2006). Obama, who is recognized by other liberals as the most liberal liberal in Congress, spent the last two months of the campaign running center-right.

The attacks are coming from those who fear what Gov. Palin represents. They fear not being able to convince enough people to oppose her unless they start savaging her now. I am also inclined to believe that a good number of those spreading the lies and misinformation are either from, will be or desire to be part of a certain former and future presidential hopeful loser, who fancies himself a contender in 2012.

Sarah Palin is good for our party – she is good for America. And trust me, those attacking her do so because they fear her ability to connect with voters. They wouldn't waste their efforts if this were not the case. To those who say she isn't "smart enough," I say she doesn't have to be an Adams, Jefferson, Madison or Reagan; she just has to be smart enough to know it and surround herself with capable people. And keep in mind that Ronald Reagan was attacked as not being intelligent enough, while Bill Clinton was hailed as being supremely intelligent.

Palin didn't lose the race for McCain – he lost it himself despite her giving him a tremendous boost going into the closing weeks of the campaign. She is, however, the reason his 6-point lost wasn't a double-digit loss.

Fun Stuff!--Part 1

Since this election cycle was hard on all of us, I figure a diversion from politics is a good thing. My liberal buddies James and Dave are so happy about their Obama win that they are taking some time off from politics. Kudos to them, while being happy about their win there was no gloating to those of us who were mourning a loss.

1) True but funny story--I was working out on the elliptical machine at the gym last night and this guy starts working out next to me. He starts talking to me even though I have headphones on but he gets my attention. We start talking for awhile, when I realize that he is hitting on me. By this time he knows I'm married, have 4 kids, that my husband does kickboxing, etc... I even talk about how I'm a Republican and he is an Obama supporter and still he is not dissuaded. Finally, I happen to mention that I'm one of those people who still loves Bush and he finally disappears. LOL :-)!

2) Nickelback's New Cd--I'm a big fan of Nickelback and they are coming out with a new Cd. Ironically, it comes out the same day as David Cook's, November 18th. I'm looking forward to both of them. I'm really bummed that a friend and I didn't go to the Nickelback concert here in KC a year ago with Chris Daughtry. I'm a huge fan of both and it would've been worth the money. Hopefully, sometime in the near future. My friend is also a homeschooling Mom of 4 so we joked about how we would have to get some leather pants to go.

3) The Jane Austen Book Club--I knew I wanted to buy this movie the first time I saw it. It is an excellent movie but I was waiting for it to be a decent price. Then, this past weekend I needed a good movie to distract me from the rough political news. I went to Target and they had it for a great price and it was the last copy. How could I not buy it?

4) North and South--I started reading this during the summer but things got crazy busy with the campaigns. It was hard to get much reading done, but if I did, it was easier books. So, now that the campaigns are over I went back to reading it and I am enjoying it. I also only have 3 books after this to finish my 50 book list.

Tomorrow, will be my Fun Stuff--Part 2 post, stay tuned!

Wednesday Smorgasbord!

1) John Stossel reveals how ignorant so many people are about the world around them. What is scary is that so many of these people vote.

2) Elizabeth Edwards Ditches Wedding Ring. It looks like the Edwards have possibly separated. I guess Elizabeth didn't take too kindly to being humiliated in front of the world. And instead of being your typical political wife she refused to be a doormat.

3) I Love George W. Bush Day. I'm probably going to do a series of posts myself thanking President Bush before the year ends. Here is an excerpt from a column by Michael Gerson at the Washington Post:
But that humanity is precisely what I will remember. I have seen President Bush show more loyalty than he has been given, more generosity than he has received. I have seen his buoyancy under the weight of malice and his forgiveness of faithless friends. Again and again, I have seen the natural tug of his pride swiftly overcome by a deeper decency — a decency that is privately engaging and publicly consequential.

4) It's not by accident that we have not been attacked on American soil since September 11, 2001.
President Bush never took his eyes off the ball. War-critics just never understood the rules of the game.

5) How Democrats Are Attempting to Steal A Senate Seat

6) 48 to 52 - With All Our Love This expresses exactly how I feel.

In Defense of Sarah Palin!

"I've been working over 20 years in Washington and I've been around literally dozens and dozens of politicians. She is among the smartest, toughest, most capable politicians I've ever dealt with. She has a photographic memory."--Randy Scheunemann (McCain's top foreign policy adviser)
It is unconscionable how Sarah Palin has been treated ever since joining the ticket with McCain. She, like Bush are a threat to liberals and as a result liberals have engaged in character assassination. And Palin has been thrown under the bus by some Republicans as well.

There have been a lot of false rumors that have traveled through the left wing blogosphere. In the above Greta interview Palin puts a lot of them to rest.

Also, it turns out that some loyal Romney supporters may have been behind the rumors. In this ABC article, a Palin aide and a McCain aide come to Palin's defense, insisting that the rumors are false.

"For one thing there is quite a defense of Palin mounting in the blogosphere. Gosh, if you had to come up with a plot to endear her to the base, increase anger against the McCain bumblers and lift the fighting spirits of conservatives you couldn’t come up with a better idea than continuing to trash Palin in the media. Is it a Rovian plot?"--Byron York

Michelle Malkin echoes my sentiments exactly in the above video. She starts off by talking about the hypocrisy of Oprah and then the treatment of Palin. Bill Kristol and Rush also came to Palin's defense.

Dealing with the Aftermath!

To be honest, the past couple of days have been rough. I've been grieving what we've lost. Last night, I was particularly having a difficult time and I realized what my biggest problem was, none of this has been fair. I realize that one of the fundamentals of life is that many things aren't fair. Its one of the things we tell our children when they are young. Don't expect life to be fair, because it isn't.

That said, I'm going to voice some of my frustrations. As I've been visiting a lot of conservative blogs, I'm getting a glimpse at how we as conservatives are coping with this new set of events.

Many on our side of the aisle have been very gracious towards Obama. John McCain himself gave what was probably the most gracious concession speech I've ever heard. President Bush who is always a class act has been more than gracious as well. When I saw Karl Rove being gracious on Fox News, I just shook my head. Rove has been so demonized and attacked by the left that had I been him, I don't think I could've been half as gracious.

All of this has been a bitter pill to swallow after what those of us on the right have been put through the past 8 years. Robin pointed it out so well when she said,
"All I can say is I promise to treat the new "president" with the same respect that was given to President Bush."
My beloved President has been compared to Hitler, he has been trashed, belittled and demeaned all while turning the other cheek and keeping this country safe. He came into the White House with a "new tone" which the Democrats immediately used to stab him in the back.

In 2000, where was Gore's gracious concession speech? In 2004, where was Kerry's gracious concession speech? I was never even able to celebrate a Bush win on the night of either election because Gore and Kerry cared more about themselves than the country. Where were the liberals that were gracious to Bush and said we had to give him a chance? There were none!!!

Now, we have liberals gloating everywhere and rubbing it in our face that we are to treat Obama with respect. We are supposed to suck it up, because he's our President whether we like it or not. A new reader of my blog sent me an email that a liberal co-worker sent her. Here is just an excerpt of what it said:
"But I'm not going to tell you "losers" to sit down and shut up. I say stand up and speak out if you have legitimate concerns. But here are some examples of really ridiculous concerns:

1- Obama will "destroy" America because of his association with (fill in the blank):
Ayers, Khalidi, Acorn, Malcom X, Cheney
2- Obama will "destroy" America because he is a (fill in the blank):
socialist, Muslim, terrorist, baby killer, Hawaiian secessionist

Before slandering President Elect Barack Obama, you should investigate the people your own guy/gal have (actually) been associated with and the things they have (actually) done. It's a lucky thing for the McCain/Palin team that Obama decided to merely beat them fairly and honestly rather than "destroy" THEM. To bring up the afore mentioned concerns based entirely on the GOP's attempted character assasination would only make you look as ridiculous as, say, Freedom fries or Joe the Plumber or, you know - Her.

Try to accept that McCain's hell-bent "straight talk" express crashed and burned in it's own hate fueled smears. They ran a dirty campain and they deserved to lose."
At the end of the email, the co-worker said that Obama was going to nominate all these wonderful people to his cabinet that would then repair all of the horrible things that the Bush administration has done. And in the end the entire world will be able to see how stupid we were never to have supported Obama. Unbelievably condescending and hateful gloating is what that is.

The reason it so infuriates me is because I would never do this to someone. I may be excited about something on my own blog, but I would never go to a liberal blog and gloat and say hateful things. I would not send emails to liberal friends and rub it in their face. Yet, you would not believe the immature and hateful things that were said to me the night Obama won.

I'm not sure why liberals are so threatened by my blog when they control all of the MSM. Of course, if they have their way they will silence the only media we do monopolize, talk radio and the alternative media on the internet. In true socialistic fashion, the liberals must control ALL news media outlets. Its not enough to have control of 90% of it.

And of course, I can never say it better than Ann Coulter. So I will conclude with an excerpt of the latter part of her most recent column:
"I keep trying to get Democrats to take my advice (stop being so crazy), but they never listen to me. Why do Republicans take the advice of their enemies?

How many times do we have to run this experiment before Republican primary voters learn that "moderate," "independent," "maverick" Republicans never win, and right-wing Republicans never lose?

Indeed, the only good thing about McCain is that he gave us a genuine conservative, Sarah Palin. He's like one of those insects that lives just long enough to reproduce so that the species can survive. That's why a lot of us are referring to Sarah as "The One" these days.

Like Sarah Connor in "The Terminator," Sarah Palin is destined to give birth to a new movement. That's why the Democrats are trying to kill her. And Arnold Schwarzenegger is involved somehow, too. Good Lord, I'm tired.

After showing nearly superhuman restraint throughout this campaign, which was lost the night McCain won the California primary, I am now liberated to announce that all I care about is hunting down and punishing every Republican who voted for McCain in the primaries. I have a list and am prepared to produce the names of every person who told me he was voting for McCain to the proper authorities.

We'll start with former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Florida Gov. Charlie Crist. Then we shall march through the states of New Hampshire and South Carolina -- states that must never, ever be allowed to hold early Republican primaries again.

For now, we have a new president-elect. In the spirit of reaching across the aisle, we owe it to the Democrats to show their president the exact same kind of respect and loyalty that they have shown our recent Republican president.

Starting tomorrow, if not sooner.
"
Heidi quoted from an FDR speech in her aftermath post and concluded with this quote, which I will leave you with as well,
"God bless you all and may God have mercy upon our souls - and our country."

The Silver Lining--Part 2

"We live in a beautiful country and I will remain proud of our country, proud of our citizens, proud of our military, and proud of our freedoms. We can continue to embrace what we love about our republic without supporting liberals who oppose our principles or those who attempt to restrict our rights.

Nothing a politician or a president can do will ever strip me of my optimism and faith in what our founding fathers inspired in me - belief in the fundamentals of our political system, belief in the right to dissent, belief in fighting for what we know is right and belief in a better future which I can create for myself despite them."--Conservative Belle

--You have to watch the above SNL video. It is Ben Affleck pretending to be Keith Olbermann. He makes Olbermann look like the hateful, vicious, irrational guy that he is.

--Traditional marriage is preserved in Florida, California and Arizona

--It looks like Coleman is going to beat Franken

--The Democrats did not get a 60 seat majority in the Senate

I've been so busy with election stuff that I haven't been able to visit a lot of bogs lately. So last night I got half way through my blogroll. I found some good posts that I'd like to link to:
--Marjorie Dannenfelser on Sarah Palin

The Silver Lining!

--The Sam Graves' campaign that my daughter and I worked on, won by 22 percentage points. The Democrats had targeted this race and were outspending Sam Graves until they conceded that there was no way their Democrat candidate could win.

--My blog got over 1,000 hits the day before the election and around 900 the day of the election.

--McCain/Palin won in my county

--McCain/Palin seems to have won Missouri by a small margin, although the state isn't being called one way or the other

--The 3 stellar Republican Representatives (Doug Ervin, Tim Flook and Jerry Nolte) that I was rooting for in my county all won by large margins. Nolte's was impressive because in a Democrat year he won handily when his district has more registered Democrats than Republicans.

--My excellent State Senator Luann Ridgeway ran an excellent campaign and also won by a good margin.

--Sarah Palin will be a big player for the GOP. Many conservatives turned out in droves for McCain because of Sarah Palin. She has a bright future in the Republican party.

--We will have 24/7 entertainment waiting to see what psychotic thing Joe Biden will say or do next. If Obama is smart, he will give Biden a dual job with the other being an ambassadorship to a far away country.

--Ben Shapiro captures what an Obama administration might look like and how things will pan out by 2012.
