LMC's Smorgasbord

Many of us have contacted our Senators and Representatives about the important Child Safety Act. You would think this important bill which could save and protect many innocent children's lives would be a no brainer for Republicans and Democrats. I don't see how this is a partisan issue except that liberals seem to have a soft place in their hearts for criminals. Guess which two senators are holding up this bill? Ted Kennedy and Harry Reid. Just when I thought these 2 senators couldn't be any more despicable. They want the ridiculous hate crimes legislation added to the bill so that then many wouldn't be able to vote for it. Yet another reason the President needs the power of a line item veto. For more info check out Suzie's great post on this. She does a great job of keeping us up to date on how to protect our kids. She gives the contact info for Harry and Teddy so you can share your thoughts with them on their tactics.

Shoprat did a post entitled Sorry McCain -- You Are Wrong!! Even though McCain has done many things to tick me off I was still stunned by his latest stunt. This is a quote of what he said:
"I would rather have a clean government than one where quote First Amendment rights are being respected."

How scary is that??? And this is the person that some want for the Republican nomination for '08. I think not!!!

Tom Coburn deserves a Chatterbox award for leading the charge to cut wasteful spending. Last thursday Coburn helped conservatives take a first step towards pork-busting by cutting a seafood promotion program that was going to cost the taxpayers $15 million. It was a small step but one in the right direction. He has a bunch of other amendments that he is hoping to get passed to cut more wasteful spending.

The words to describe this man can't be used on this blog. This is a story I have been following in KC for quite awhile. Daniel Porter kidnapped his kids from his ex-wife in 2004 and refuses to let anyone know their whereabouts. In an effort to terrorize his wife he has told various versions of what happened to the children. He has said that he sold them to someone, that he left them with friends and another time he said he killed them. I so feel for his ex-wife and the suffering she has endured not knowing what has happened to her children. It is bad enough that he kidnapped them and probably murdered them but not to give her closure by sharing their whereabouts just seems so evil to me. It makes this tragedy unbearable for this heartbroken mother. The only good news is that the judge gave him the maximum sentence he could give, but 38 years in prison doesn't even seem good enough if there is a possibility of parole.

This article from the KC Star entitled Children unload their toy guns just made me roll my eyes. Can we get any more politically correct? This is so ridiculous. My oldest son made a gun out of legos when he was like 3 or 4 years old and it wasn't because he was watching any violent tv shows. Boys have played cops and robbers since before our grandparents were kids. Playing with toy guns isn't going to turn anyone into a criminal. Give me a break!!

This last pick was a neat article I found by Oliver North on Aeon Web. It is entitled Open Letter to Tony Snow. Take the time to check it out.
