Trolls

Please note I have changed my header a little bit to include my philosophy on how to deal with trolls. I am not against healthy debate. But with that said I'm also not going to waste my time arguing with liberals who enjoy personal attacks. As many of you know I recently had problems with a troll who goes by the title PB. He doesn't have his own blog but seems to like to go to conservative blogs and stir up trouble. He made a comment about Donald Rumsfeld that was the usual liberal mantra and was out of context. To be honest I don't have the time or energy to debate liberals on every single topic and that was not the purpose or design of this blog. He then resorted to personal attacks because he was upset that I had deleted his comments. That only confirmed to me I had made the right decision initially to delete his comments.

I've noticed that every blogger seems to have a different philosophy on how to deal with liberals. Mahndisa considers herself to be an independent and enjoys most people's comments and welcomes almost any and all debate. My hats off to her for being so open-minded. Exile seems to relish debating liberals and even has a trophy troll room. On the other hand Phantom makes it very clear that he doesn't even want liberals on his site at all. Ranting Republican says her blog is a place to vent her conservative views and if you are a liberal, find another blog. I am probably somewhere in between these two camps. If you are a respectful liberal and the topic you want to debate interests me then I might engage. Otherwise I don't enjoy wasting my time debating something I know will not change either of our minds. I also detest personal attacks and do not want to engage in them. I remembered a verse my dad showed me in highschool when I kept arguing with a guy at school who just enjoyed arguing with people just to upset them. Proverbs 26:4--Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you will be like him yourself. I have no wish to do this.

The resident liberal who comes to my blog is James who also frequents Mahndisa's & Rebecca's blogs also. We have had spirited debates but still remain respectful towards each other without descending into personal attacks. We don't agree on very much politically but have other interests in common. And speaking of this he has posted a hilarious column today on how to deal with trolls. I was laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes. But I will warn you that there is profanity involved so go there at your own risk :-).

That is my philosophy in a nutshell. If you are a liberal you will probably not enjoy much about my blog and I ask you to refrain from personal attacks. If you think you have a valid point to be debated you are welcome to try but I will not guarantee that I will debate you and if you are out of line your comments will be deleted. As Rush says, he is a benevolent dictator of his radio show and he gets to determine what gets said and who says it. This is my blog and I get to determine the message that I want sent. As conservatives we have to deal with the liberal drivel everywhere in the MSM. Conservatives flourish on talk radio and the internet where there is true competition. If you are a liberal you are free to start your own blog and rehash all the MSM drivel but don't get mad if you're not allowed to post it here.

Ms. Chatterbox: You are the bomb!!! Thx for mentioning me, but even deeper, thx for clarifying and staking out YOUR TERRITORY! And even certain things I don't even feel fit to discuss with these yahoos. But you are right; I do enjoy a spirited debate and since I am an Independent I can see both sides somtimes-but not all the time!!! Great post. I will mention it for tomorrows post. I won't post today cuz I am swamped at work, okay unless I get some free time:)

PS PD delinked me from his blog. I don't know why, but I asked him about an IP address that could've been a shill's but he didn't like that I guess. I think the word shill is so funny, I just can't stop laughing. Perhaps that offended him, who knows. But we can all learn a lot from him about itnernet security issues and flaws. Glad you are on good standing with him, and perhaps you will share some of the knowledge he has:) Take Care:)

LMC, that' a very good way of putting it. Add a couple "whoop dat trick" and "hoe get off my blog" and it would be perfect. But you are a gracious host... so send the trolls my way - I'm an equal opportunity curser. Liberals, Conservatives, white, black, old and young. I'll cuss 'em all out.

Mahn, wassup. You haven't posted anything in a couple of days. You're my resident genius - I'm like the plant on the Little Shop of Horrors - "Feed me Seymore."

Was that the strangest show ever created? I hope the guy that wrote that went and got himself right with the Lord. Creepy.

Thanks Mahndisa & James. James I must say that you are hilarious and I would watch you if you were on SNL :-).

Hey James: I have been swamped at work and school. I am finishing up a couple of papers for school, working fulltime (on break now that's why I am typing like a madwoman!!!) and so I think I will post more like every other day or so. I think the posts marinate for a while and get more comments that way too. Interesting stuff! Thx for the compliment. If you see this, and if you are inclined, please email me. I need to ask you a question or two. Thx James and have a good day:)

I usually just toss facts back to liberals, it chases them away pretty quickly.

BTW, go to my blog, get my e-mail, and send me a note, I'll send you the html code to put the flag into your page.

And I like your blog, so I added you to my blog roll.

The Crazy One.

Chatter,
I love your new blog look. You will have to explain to me how you link on your posts.

Little Miss Chatterbox said...

Thanks, Crazy I've linked you as well.

I can deal with liberal trolls, but just cant stand when they get personal or have to resort to insulting you in order to make a point. When they go "there" that's when I usually give them a warning and if they go across-the-line again they're gone for good.

I have noticed that staying articulate, keeping your poise and giving them FACTS does tend to be 3 traits you can use to scare them off. They dodnt know what to do with themselves when they meet a challenge.

James, re: Little Shop of Horrors - I liked the original Roger Corman film with Jack Nicholson as the masochistic dental patient. The musical was terrific. Another great musical based on a really cheesy movie: Reefer Madness. I highly recommend it.

If I were ever to get a troll I have before on LiveJournal), I would likely delete the post, since I moderate. However, there's something to be said for leaving idiotic commenta out there; "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt."

Thoughtful debate is awesome and welcome on People Covered in Fish. Anonymous cowards trolling teenagers' blogs are not.

Thanks for the link, LMC.

I don't debate liberals because I think that I'm going to change their mind. I do it because, as the debate goes on, they show themselves to everyone else as the fools that they are.

They are examples. They think that they are making valid points. I'm sure that some of them even think that they're winning the debate. But all they are doing is showing the world what kind of immature, silly children that they, and all liberals, are.

Little Miss Chatterbox said...

Exile & Robosquirrel: Some good points. I love the quote, "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt." :-)Very good.

Trolls don't get much of a chance at my place either. I don't suffer fools.

Stacy (notadesperatehousewife) and I have shared some trolls for a while. We even share their ip addresses to block them even faster.

Just think. My blog is purposely not political and I still get trolls. Some of them have even been nasty regarding my autistic son. I would love to round them all up and pass out leather suppositories.

Little Miss Chatterbox said...

BWH: Wow!! I would've thought because you don't do politics you wouldn't get trolls. Making comments about your son when he has autism is below a low blow. Thats how I felt when this troll started questioning how I homeschool. When they bring your kids into it, its just below low.

Revka said...

BWH,
Wow, I love the leather suppository comment! Great one! If anyone had a derogatory comment regarding any one in my family.. I would do more than buy James' cuss out kit, I would hire James to go kick some booty..Maybe he can add that as a 'bonus' to buying 2 cuss out kits.. For an extra $19.99,You get a personal visit for 1/2 hour booty kickin' from the man himself..James. The cost alone is $600.00, so it is worth two kits.

Folks, I am not gonna *dog-pile* PD, I think there are some issues at work we may not know about and I am truly sorry for him if that's the case...

I said this on Disa's blog, this isn't Op/Sec, it's blogging... Shit happens and people are gonna make some dumb assed comments... That's why you use something like Halo Scan so you can ban em and just move on, laughing at the idiots...

You don't worry about the world coming to an end because some nose picking mouth breather read your blog and called you a bad name...

IF you're dumb enough to let that type of thing get to you, or you're dumb enough to put information on your computer that hackers can use, oh well, your BAD...

But hackers aren't gonna hack you thru a blog or a forum or a web ring/web roll... Just NOT gonna happen... Hackers go in thru OPEN PORTS...

And paranoia is what keeps some folks breathing...

And that is sad...

Little Miss Chatterbox said...

Texas Fred: I think you may be confusing PD and PB. PD is Phantom Driver who I have no problems with. PB was a troll that has no blog of his own and just came causing problems. Just wanted to clarify.

James Manning said...

Rebecca,

I have a post coming about the last fight I had. I don't fight anymore unless it is necessary. Which is why I am thinking of purchasing a shotgun. Why hurt my fist when I can just pull a trigger and be done with it.

However, I may a free brick with every purchase.

MCB, talk to Disa... You may not know all that's going on...

Look at her blog and read her comment here, 2nd from the top... :)

Fred: I am very aware of the controversy between PD and James and PD and Mahndisa. I just wanted it to be clear that I wasn't dogpiling because PD & PB are 2 different people. Does that make sense? I hate these internet squabbles. Yuck!

TexasFred said...

Oh, I knew you weren't *piling on*.. Not an accusation at all... Against anyone... Just wanted it known that I won't do it either...

I personally think it's ALL kind of ridiculous...

If you have comments you don't like, edit em, delete em, ban the offender, DON'T go pissing off the folks that support you...

Oh well, not my problem now, I don't have, nor do I want the addy for the new blog, and the old one is n longer linked at my place..

But ChatterBox is... :)

Or not.... :)

Little Miss Chatterbox said...

Texas Fred: That was good for a laugh and I agree with you.

Little Miss Chatterbox said...

Texas Fred: I reread your original comments and realized I misunderstood you. Geesh!! Communication issues. Anyway, all that to say you're right and I agree with you. Thanks!

Eddie said...

Yeah, my thought about Trolls was just delete their comments. However, they never seem to go away. The other alternative is to just ignore them and hope they eventually give up.

OR.... Install Halo Scan and dump the most offensive ones, delete their GARBAGE and ban their IP's...

I have no compunctions about banning an IDIOT....

Differences of opinion are what makes for great debate but when the most intelligent statement that they can make is, "You suck and I screwed your wife and your kids are ugly...", well, I DO believe in banning the offender...

If that's me impeding someones freedom of speech, sue me...

Man. I feel left out. I've gotten one troll and he wasn't much to look at so I threw him back. Sheesh!

Heavy sigh.

bob said...

I tend not to get trolls for some strange reason. Not that I'm complaining, but I'd like to get the occasional one for general principles. [James, you may be a liberal, but I've stopped by your blog and you ain't no troll!]

Little Miss Chatterbox said...

Zeppelin & Bob: Just be thankful. Trolls are very annoying. And Bob you are right, James is no troll.

Zeppelin: I'm sure you'll eventually get more trolls. I remember Rebecca having trolls and thinking I was glad they weren't at my blog but it was only a matter of time :-).
