"Rumsfeld Spanks the Media"

Okay, this is AWESOME!! I found this on Real Clear Politics, on their blog site. I have to mention that I love Donald Rumsfeld. I have so much respect and admiration for him. In fact now that I think about it he should've been on my heroes list. And to show you what a political news junkie I am instead of having dreams about movie stars or other things I once had a dream that I met Donald Rumsfeld and got to have this great political discussion with him. Anyway all that to say I loved what this article had to say.

"Rumsfeld Spanks Media
I was under the impression Rumsfeld's speech at the SAIS today was about Iraq - and it was. But sandwiched between a recitation of Bush's "stay the course" rhetoric from the other day was a classic Rumsfeldian rebuke of the media's coverage of the war:

The media serves a valuable -- indeed an indispensable -- role in informing our society and holding government to account. But I would submit it is also important for the media to hold itself to account.

We have arrived at a strange time in this country where the worst about America and our military seems to be so quickly taken as truth by the press and reported and spread around the world -- with little or no context or scrutiny -- let alone correction or accountability -- even after the fact. Speed it appears is often the first goal, not accuracy, not context.

Recently there were claims by two Iraqis on a speaking tour that U.S. soldiers threw them in a cage with lions. Their charges were widely reported -- still without substantiation. Not too long ago, there was a false and damaging story about a Koran supposedly flushed down a toilet, and in the riots that followed people were killed. And a recent New York Times editorial implied America’s armed forces -- your armed forces -- use tactics reminiscent of Saddam Hussein.

I understand that there may be great pressure on them to tell a dramatic story. And while it is easy to use a bombing or a terrorist attack to support a belief that Iraq is a failure, that is not the accurate picture. And further, it is not good journalism.

Consider this: You couldn’t tell the full story of Iwo Jima simply by listing the nearly 26,000 American casualties over about 40 days; or explain the importance of Grant’s push to Virginia just by noting the savagery of the battles. So too, in Iraq, it is appropriate to note not only how many Americans have been killed -- and may God bless them and their families -- but what they died for -- or more accurately, what they lived for.

So I suggest to editors and reporters -- whose good intentions I take for granted -- to do some soul searching. To ask: how will history judge -- if it does -- the reporting decades from now when Iraq’s path is settled?

I would urge us all to make every effort to ensure we are telling the whole story. To take a moment for self-reflection and reassessment."

The line about asking reporters to do some soul searching is brilliant. I lOVE how Rumsfeld is one of the only conservatives that takes the media to task. Brit Hume once aired a clip from Saturday Night Live about Rumsfeld. It was hilarious. It showed how the media was scared of Rumsfeld and how he just made mincemeat of them. It was great. In a perfect world W should take lessons and be a little more "Rumsfeld" when dealing with the media. I can always dream.

I second those thoughts. Reagan was a master of manipulating the media to his favor and Bush's team should study that administration and copy the behavior.

Thanks, Eddie. I wholeheartedly agree.

It is my blog and I can censor whoever's comments I choose to. You don't even have a blog for me to respond to you on. I don't know why you would expect me to let trolls like you take up space on my blog. If you would like to engage in debate than maybe you should have a blog of your own instead of trolling around to other people's blogs.

um, you had a point until you attacked her personally pb...all a person would hear after that is "you're a horrible person and probably just as bad a parent". the high ground just got lower i guess...

Point well made, slimadam. Thanks.

you're welcome. see, no reason we can't all get along (no rodney king jokes, please. i just couldn't take it).

Whoa Ms. Chatterbox: You got the blessings and the curses of high volume traffic I see:) Best wishes; I really like the direction your blog has taken and the analysis you give on these news pieces. I rarely watch the MSM anymore. Thx:) have a wonderful day and forget about these nasty trolls, and I can see you took the proper action. Great!!!

Little Miss Chatterbox said...

Thanks Mahndisa.

Slim--I noticed the quotation marks around your sentence. That was not a statement I made. It was your interpretation of the statement I made. If the post had been left up (if all my posts had been left up) all would be able to see what I wrote. Lmc it is a bit dis-ingenous to omit realties as you have.

Mandhisa-- you call me a troll and I remember not so long ago you were attacked, as I was initially, and it hurt your feelings and you scolded for such actions, yet you do the same here.

That is the problem, you see my initial comments had nothing more than truths and no character assasinations and I was labeled a troll and my posts removed.

Lmc--you can remove this one as well, you and I know what transpired and you will live with that. I have made my apology for a comment made in frustration. Interesting how you chose to leave that and deleted all the rest. You will live with the wrong.

PB--I really don't get what your problem is. No one's blog is a democracy. As Rush says about his show he is a benevolent dictator. He chooses what to discuss and who gets to comment, etc.

I am not afraid of debate but didn't necessarily set up my blog to be a debate forum. To be honest I don't have the time to get involved in meaningless debates where I know my mind will not be changed and neither will yours. I have had healthy debates with James (a liberal) who frequents my blog and Rebecca's. If I feel the comments are worth responding to, I do. James has also gone out of his way to be very respectful and I do not consider him a troll for that reason. And that is why I have even defended him against other conservatives who have called him a troll.

But in your case you came on and tried to make Rumsfeld look bad with some info that was completely out of context. I had just made it perfectly clear that I deeply admired him and I didn't have the time or the energy to respond so I deleted your comments. If you are going to throw a temper tantrum about that and lodge personal attacks against me then I will delete those comments also.

The reason I have labeled you a troll is because you come on and make snide comments and then don't have a blog to have anyone respond on. I don't get your purpose. If you are truly interested in healthy debate then start your own blog and label it that.

But you need to realize that the majority of people start blogs as a place to vent not to debate. I am more in that camp. I started this blog as a place to write and as an outlet to express my political views. I like interacting with other conservatives, libertarians, independents, etc. I rarely visit liberal's blogs because I have no desire to read the same drivel that is forced down my throat in most of the MSM. Why do you think conservatives like Talk Radio and the internet? It is a place where conservatives can speak their mind without being censored.

Your own blog would be your own democracy but mine isn't. If you have a problem with that than you need to find another place to comment.

P.S. The last comment that was deleted was mine because I accidently published before I was done.

What makes you think I am not a "conservative?"

You have put comments out in a public domain, and you do not expect people to respond?

You chastise the media for not being thorough in listening to all sides, yet you censor anyone in disagreement with your opinion?

I am fascinated that you would not want to hear all sides of an argument. How can you form informed opinions when you will not debate?

Do you already know everything?

How do you teach your children to make decisions? Do you just tell them what to think, or do you give them an opprtunity to critically analyse?

You see when you just decide to spred your opinion throughout cyberspace, you influence people. As a responsible adult, I would think you would want to influence people in a mannor condusive to the betterment of society. So...

Rush does what he does to make millions, not because he is correct. Why do you do it?

It is to bad you chose to call me names and delete my first post. I suspect we could have had many great discussions about motorcycles (Harleys) and riding, but for some reason you singled me out and deleted my thoughts because they did not entirely agree with yours on one topic. Bummer.

Do you wave to fellow riders? Just wondering.

PB: What are you talking about?!!! I didn't know you were the one whose comments got deleted. I just came here and saw some deleted comments by the site administrator. Also, it isn't wrong to disagree with anyone especially in the blogosphere. But I label a troll as someone who has no respect and is there to cause trouble and wreak havoc. So the comment was to whomever!!!! But PB, my site is more for debates and if that is what you want, come by. But please be respectful of everyone and watch the acidity of your comments, because some folks don't get a certain sense of acerbic humor. Not to say you have one; but just in case. Alright?

Ms.Chatterbox: again you are sharing in the fortunes of good blog traffic:)

James Manning said...

Wow, Chatter, you didn't curse him out LOL.

PB, I have no idea what you said homey, but you were probably out of line as LMC is more gracious than a lot of conservatives.

This gives me a good idea for a new post.

SlimAdam said...

pb- wasn't trying to quote you. think of them as just what you said- interpretations. if i had been LMC that's probably how i would've taken what you said. it was the subtext not actual statment and it was not my intent to infer otherwise. sorry bout that.

Little Miss Chatterbox said...

PB: This will be my last reply to you since this is becoming a complete waste of my time. I think I have been more than fair with you. The only derogatory term I have used in regards to you is troll and I stand by that term because I think it is a very accurate description.

To criticize how I teach and raise my children is a VERY LOW blow. I am a critical thinker and I teach my children to think critically but that is none of your business. This is exactly the problem. You have no blog so I don't know if you have kids are married or anything else about you. Since I do you have all kinds of things you can cherry pick to criticize me on personally.

Just because I chose not to debate you on one issue doesn't mean anything. And your opinion of Rush is an opinion I completely disagree with. If you really listened to him you would know he doesn't do it for the money. I am starting to think you are being paid by someone to come on conservative blogs and cause problems. I already explained that my blog is about venting about my political views. Please don't bother responding because I'm done debating you on this. For the hundreth time start your own blog and explain your liberal viewpoints there.

Little Miss Chatterbox said...

James: Getting close to cursing but restraining myself :-).

Slimadam: You were right. That is exactly how I interpreted his statements and thats why I said point well made.

Don't know what you deleted, but just a suggestion, if it isn't loaded with expletives, publish it. You can show where the expletives were, or you could write why the comment was deleted if the vitriol was overpowering.

Anyway, it is your blog, and I do agree with your politics, but I personally like to let everyone post if it's clean.

Like your Sean Hannity clip art.

PB(&J), you're welcome to come on over to my blog and make any kind of snide comment you want. I have been blogging for almost a year and I have never deleted anything. In my opinion, deleting the childish tantrums of trolls is counterproductive.

And you are a troll. Anybody who won't leave a link back to themselves because they're afraid to be debated on their own turf is the definition of a troll.

And you call yourself a biker? That is the biggest insult of all. You're just some little pussy who bought a Harley. Any real biker would have the guts to debate people whenever and wherever they wished, including their own turf. They wouldn't mince off to somebody's blog, insult them, and mince away.

I used to drink with Hell's Angels, Grim Reapers, BPM's and God knows how many other clubs' members. They liked me because they thought that I was nuts. And back then, I was. There weren't many people on this earth that were accepted by all of them, but I was one.

I grew up with BPM's, who were the strongest Motorcycle Club in Minnesota (don't know if they still are). My sister used to be the president's (Tiny's) old lady.

Half of my friends are still bikers. I got out because I was getting in too much trouble. Prison would have been the next step. I was smart enough to bail out. Many of my friends weren't.

The bikers that I know would take one look at you and, if you were lucky, you'd go scurrying away. If you weren't lucky, they'd catch you.

You want to come over to my blog and debate, boy? I love trolls. I actually have a Trophy Room where I mount their heads after I've made them run away. I've had dozens, and not one of them has lasted more than a week or so. That's because they can only have their asses kicked by logic for so long, and then they run out of stupid, petulant things to say.

Thanks for the heads-up, LMC.

"You see when you just decide to spred your opinion throughout cyberspace, you influence people."

Exactly, and why would anybody allow you to have a free ride?
Can you influence A.N.S.W.E.R.?

Start your own blog and let other people to influence their own audience.

LMC,
WHEW!! Great stuff.
This is my point about liberals. Here is how they debate: I will start with Chatterbox's comment, and show you PB's response:

Chatterbox: "PB--I really don't get what your problem is. No one's blog is a democracy. As Rush says about his show he is a benevolent dictator. He chooses what to discuss and who gets to comment, etc."

PB's RESPONSE:

"You have put comments out in a public domain, and you do not expect people to respond?

You chastise the media for not being thorough in listening to all sides, yet you censor anyone in disagreement with your opinion?

I am fascinated that you would not want to hear all sides of an argument. How can you form informed opinions when you will not debate?"

Do you already know everything?

ME: You have to do things the way Liberals do or they cop a nut. Then they say they are tolerant of everyone's views/Choices.. You know their line.."To each his own, who am I to judge someone elses' choice"..

PB,
Mahndisa is right, she didn't do any character assasinations on you at all. She never does.

You are treading on the wrong ground here, we pretty much respect one another on this blog, so if you can't respectfully dissent then quit coming on this blog.

We must require trolls to take a lesson from James as to how to communicate respectfully to conservatives so that you can get a dialogue going.

PB said...

LMC--well not to worry, as I can see from exiles comments the types of people you would prefer to have posting on your blog. As for the troll term, I would argue that you and everyone else here is a troll. You hide behind a computer screen in psyber space to spew your garbage, because in the real world no-one would listen to your idiocy.

Exile--Nice. Oh and I will be visiting your blog, becuase you are a stain on society and someone needs to deal with you. I can.

Remember who I used to hang out with. We were unequaled at ripping people apart.
